About Tumeke Farming

The Tumeke Way

Genetics play a crucial role in the overall profitability of your farm operation - this is the bit that turns our wheels.

Quality

When you drive up the Tumeke Farming driveway, you know you're getting top-quality genetics from the experts. 80 - 85% of your farm genetics progress will come from the rams you use - that gives you a handle on the importance of ram selection and more importantly, breeder selection!

Results

We are most interested in what contribution the ram can make to the production and economic performance of your flock through his progeny. You just need to look at the ewes of your breeder and that will give you the full picture.

proof

A good example may be a Mini with a Porche engine. It might not look like much from the outside but it will go very well! Tumeke Farming genetics produce sheep who are robust, tough, and go like stink when given the opportunity!

Performance

All our recorded sheep are commercially driven - no preferential treatment is given. We believe that sheep that only perform under favourable conditions are very unlikely to breed progeny that will perform and cope in commercial and at times unfavourable conditions.

The ability to perform, even in less than favourable conditions is what sets our sheep apart from the rest.

Care

While pushing all our sheep hard, we believe, it's our duty to care for and maintain the delicate balance of nature for the sake of the wellbeing of our children and of all future generations - we are the current caretakers!

The message is simple: For best results, we have to work together and don't we all perform better when appreciated? Beauty is, that showing gratitude and appreciation doesn't involve more labour, costs or effort - it's simply being aware!

Innovation

We've always been looking outside the square - how to improve $$ Return - Systems - Genetics - Efficiencies .... we've pushed the boundaries at times and we still are! And in recent years, instead of pushing everything to the limit, we focused on embracing the "whole picture" and finding balance again! We stepped back, slowed down a wee bit and observed what was going on around us. We realised that we've been too busy to feel and express gratitude towards our stock and land for a long time, the very things that provide a living for us! A very humbling experience.

Slowing down and not flying by the seams of our pants constantly, has helped us to stay in touch with the animals, pastures and be more in tune with nature.

It's a win-win. The animals are happy and so are we!
